North Korea bars foreigners from new seaside resort shortly after opening

North Korea has reversed its decision to allow foreign tourists at the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Zone, just weeks after its July 1st opening. Initially promoted as an attraction for both domestic and international visitors and a key part of leader Kim Jong Un's tourism strategy, a notice on the country's tourism website now states that foreigners are "temporarily" prohibited. This development follows the arrival of the first Russian tourists and a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who praised the resort. Direct flights between Moscow and Pyongyang are also scheduled to commence soon, with Russian tour operators having planned further trips.
