Heavy Rains Cause Fatalities and Evacuations in South Korea

South Korea is experiencing torrential, unseasonal rains that have resulted in four fatalities and the evacuation of approximately 1,300 people. The victims include two elderly men, one of whom was reportedly attempting to drain his basement. Another man died when his car was swept away and a wall collapsed on it. The fourth victim succumbed to cardiac arrest. The heavy rainfall, described as a "once-in-a-century event" in some areas, has led to widespread flooding, submerging homes and vehicles, and prompting authorities to raise the weather disaster alert to its highest level.
