Driver Arrested in Fatal Hit-and-Run of Elderly Marathon Runner

Police in India have apprehended a man, identified as Amritpal Singh Dhillon, in connection with the death of Fauja Singh, a renowned British-Indian marathon runner often recognized as the world's oldest. The incident, described as a hit-and-run, occurred when Dhillon, allegedly driving a speeding SUV, struck Singh, who was 114 years old, during his afternoon walk in Punjab. Singh sustained severe injuries and later died in the hospital. The vehicle suspected of being used in the collision has been recovered. Fauja Singh was a celebrated figure in the running community, having started his marathon career at 89 and competing in numerous races, including full marathons, even after surpassing 100 years of age.
