Europe Threatens Iran with UN Sanctions Over Nuclear Program

Britain, France, and Germany have warned Iran that they will re-impose tough United Nations nuclear sanctions by the end of August if Tehran does not show concrete progress in limiting its nuclear activities. These sanctions, previously lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal, include embargoes on arms, banks, and nuclear equipment. The move is intended to pressure Iran into resuming negotiations and cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), whose inspectors were suspended after recent bombings of Iranian nuclear sites. The IAEA monitors Iran's nuclear program, which, according to the agency, is producing uranium enriched to near weapons-grade levels. The European nations hope that the threat of renewed multilateral sanctions, in addition to existing US sanctions, will encourage Iran to return to the negotiating table and restrict its uranium enrichment capabilities.
