Olympic Champion Laura Dahlmeier Dies in Pakistan Climbing Accident

Laura Dahlmeier, a celebrated German biathlete and double Olympic champion, has tragically passed away following a mountaineering accident in Pakistan's Karakoram mountains. The 31-year-old athlete was a victim of a rockfall at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters. Despite a swift rescue mission involving international expert climbers, adverse weather conditions hampered efforts. Dahlmeier's management confirmed her death, stating that a recovery operation was ultimately called off in accordance with her explicit wishes to not endanger others and to leave her body on the mountain. Her family also supported this decision.
