Pakistan Monsoons Trigger Deadly Floods, Claiming Dozens of Lives

Pakistan is experiencing severe monsoon rains, which have resulted in at least 57 deaths in the past two days, with a significant number of victims being children. The heaviest rainfall occurred in Punjab province, causing widespread flooding in both urban and rural areas. The National Disaster Management Authority reported that collapsing buildings were the primary cause of fatalities. This event follows a pattern of extreme weather in Pakistan, including recent heat waves and floods, which scientists and officials attribute to climate change. The current monsoon season, which began in late June, has already claimed over 180 lives, with more than 80 of them being children. Areas like Chakwal have been severely impacted, with villages inundated, infrastructure damaged, and residents facing substantial financial losses. The military has been deployed for rescue operations, and authorities are urging residents in vulnerable areas to comply with evacuation orders.
