Russia's Far East Hit by Earthquake and Tsunami

Russia's Far East experienced an earthquake and subsequent tsunami, causing damage to infrastructure. The earthquake, located off the Kamchatka peninsula, prompted tsunami warnings for the region and Sakhalin Oblast. Coastal areas in Severo-Kurilsk were inundated, leading to the evacuation of its residents. While a port and fish factory were flooded, no casualties were reported from the tsunami. In Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, a kindergarten sustained facade damage from the quake, but no injuries occurred as it was empty at the time. Authorities advised businesses to close and temporarily shut down volcanic parks and trekking routes due to ongoing seismic activity.
