China Floods: Beijing Deaths Rise Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall has caused significant flooding and landslides across northern China, resulting in at least 30 deaths, primarily in Beijing. The Miyun district of Beijing experienced over 21 inches of rain, leading to 28 fatalities. Across the capital, an average of six inches fell, with two additional deaths reported in Yanqing. Over 80,000 residents have been relocated due to the widespread damage, which includes damaged roads and power outages in 136 villages. Beijing had issued its highest flood alert, leading to school and construction site closures. Chinese leader Xi Jinping has directed officials to prioritize flood prevention and rescue efforts, acknowledging the critical flood season and recent widespread losses.
