Syria's Sweida province sees deadly clashes

Fighting erupted in southern Syria's Sweida province between Bedouin groups and militias from the Druse religious minority. The conflict began with an attack and robbery of a Druse man by Bedouin tribesmen, escalating into exchanges of attacks and kidnappings. Syrian government forces were deployed to quell the unrest, but many Druse militias perceived them as siding with the Bedouins, leading to clashes with government troops. Israel also conducted airstrikes against Syrian government forces in the region. The conflict has resulted in over 100 deaths, highlighting the Syrian government's challenges in asserting control and the deep-seated mistrust among local groups. A cease-fire was later announced.
